Community Read Rock County

Arrowhead Library System’s member libraries are proud participants in the 2017-2018 Community Read Rock County initiative. Libraries along with schools, outdoor organizations, and more are hosting programs and discussions centered around Patty Loew’s book, “Seventh Generation Earth Ethics: Native Voices of Wisconsin”.

This book is a great pick for a community read in Rock County because it addresses relevant topics, presents the lives of Wisconsin Natives, and is divided into sections that make it easy for even the busiest person to participate. Read a feature or more and enjoy the community activities!

This book features 12 biographies of Native Americans–one from each of the 12 tribes in Wisconsin–whose lives demonstrate the cultural gravity that keeps their people rooted to their ancestral lands and who act in ways that ensure the growth and success of future generations. In this way, they honor the Seventh Generation philosophy, which cautions decision makers to consider how their actions will affect seven generations in the future–some 240 years.

What is the test server, how should I use it?

The SHARE test server is a play area to experiment with the new system. ALS data has been loaded on the system and now is the time for you and your staff to test and explore the database and data. You cannot break the system so go wild – it’s easy to reset everything so click whatever you want! Ask your supervisor how to access the test server.

Let the LLS staff know as soon as possible about any mapping issues or any data that has errors by submitting a ticket via the Lakeshores Library System Help Desk.

A few things to note: The ALS data in the test server was pulled on September 15th. Any new items or patron records that were added since then will not be available in the test server.

When are the in-person training sessions and how do I sign up?

Upcoming events

  • There will be a December 19th Q&A from 12-1 PM which will focus on the process change related to including stakeholders and the subcommittees’ work.

Steering Committee

  • The Steering Committee would encourage everyone to provide specific feedback on the models now, as this is the time to do that as the workgroups are tweaking things. Feedback can be submitted using the Contact Form on the PLSR website and the workgroup WLA presentations can found on the site as well.
  • The group reviewed the Expectations of the Steering Committee Report document and further discussed what process they will undertake to get to recommendations.
  • The Steering Committee approved a proposal for a set of focus groups with library directors. Held in late December and early January, the focus groups will be asked questions around governance, administration, and accountability.  Russell Consulting, who will be conducting the focus groups, will also be selecting participants based on those who complete a selection form.
  • At the December meeting, the Steering Committee will consider information related to the focus groups, more updates from the subcommittees, results from the system director duties survey, results from the county relationships survey, and work on developing next steps from the process.

Are you interested in speaking with, or having a Steering Committee member visit you? Send an email at and they’ll find the time!
